The Polo Multimodal Pecém project is part, as a case study, of a three-year research doctorate in industrial planning and has the financing of ITE Ltd. (Industrial Technical Equipment).
The Italian company ITE, also based in Casablanca (Morocco), operates in the engineering of industrial and civil plants and is specialized in the area of renewable sources such as geothermal, photovoltaic, solar thermal and wind energy.
The doctoral candidate is the architect Youssef El Ganadi, a former professor at UIR (International University of Rabat) from Rabat (Morocco), while his supervisor is the architect Walter Gaj Tripiano, a former teacher at UIR of Smart City and Smart Building and special advisor to the Polo Multimodal.
The study and research activities in the case study of Pecém mainly concern the following topics:
Youssef El Ganadi.
Walter Gaj Tripiano.
1. Study and definition of the concept of smart city (forces and criticism). Comparison of smart ecosystems on a national and international scale.
2. Proposals for intervention and application of the elements and methods of the smart city in the case of the Polo Multimodal Pecém.
3. Proposals for the intervention and application of the elements and methodologies of the buildings that make up the smart city in the case of the Polo Multimodal Pecém.
The study and research activities are monitored by the School of Architecture and sponsored by the universities of Parma (Italy) and Rabat (Morocco) – Architecture Department (UIR), through specific courses and relying on the use of research and analysis laboratories present in some premises.

SMART PYRAMID
The intelligent building uses new information and communication technologies (NICT) to transmit and store data on the building's use and condition, in order to adapt its energy consumption. This principle, already gradually introduced in public distribution networks, within the scope of smart grids, now extends to private buildings.
